FAQs

1. How does PRP for hair loss work?

PRP is an innovative and autologous treatment for improving the overall quality of your hair. Harnessing your body’s own healing response, PRP therapy revitalises your hair with the use of your own blood. As hair loss is typically caused by poor cell renewal in the scalp area, a treatment that encourages cell renewal is the ideal antidote.

A small amount of blood is obtained using a small needle and placed into a centrifuge, which spins it to extract the platelets. These platelets possess rejuvenating qualities, and they are injected at specific sites across the scalp where hair loss has occurred. The body can begin to stimulate the growth factors that work to heal the body.

A single PRP therapy session for hair loss usually takes 30 – 60 minutes to complete.

2. Is PRP therapy permanent?

You will need top-up treatments if you wish for the results to endure. Initially, we recommend 3 treatments over 3 months for patients who are new to PRPtherapy. This is then followed by treatment 6 months later, and 9-monthly therapies are needed to maintain the results after this stage.

These time scales are based on data and research in prominent medical publications.

3. Who is PRP therapy for hair loss most suited to?

Individuals with early signs of hair loss tend to be the most suitable candidates for PRP therapy. Those suffering from androgenic Alopecia (characterised by hair thinning on the top of the scalp) also respond very well to treatment with PRP therapy.

With this in mind, the earlier you come in to see us when you notice the first signs of hair loss, the more responsive you are likely to be to treatment.
